I watched Jingle All The Way recently and hoped that would get me feeling Christmassy. It didn’t.

I bought an advent calendar and didn’t eat all the chocolates at once. Not a slight bit of Christmas tingle.

I pulled a cracker by myself and wore the hat as I fake laughed at the joke inside. Still no Christmas spirit.

Then Santacon came along…

12/12/15 – Santacon is an immense day for folks to dress as Santa and throw Christmas spirits down their throats. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but it’s such a fun day and if you haven’t gone to one yet, you bloody well need to.

From the official Santacon website:

[su_quote]Santacon is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-sensical Christmas parade that traditionally takes place in London one Saturday every December. There’s no particular reason to dress up in Santa suits, run around, give gifts, sing songs, have strangers sit on our laps and decide who is naughty or nice. But it’s a lot of fun so Santa does it anyway![/su_quote]

Graham and I donned the slimming suits of Santa and set off for a day of joy and jingling all the merry way around London.

There were three routes to choose from this year – East, North or South. We followed the East, starting at Hoxton Square and then dancing and snaking through the streets (and tubes) of London. A percussion band led the march from and around Hoxton to Brick Lane and through Spitalfields Market. Onlookers held their phones out to capture the insanity of hundreds and hundreds of drunken Santas cheering, drinking, bopping and intermittently yelling the following:

“What do we want?”

“When do we want it?”

The Santa enthusiasm never died down. Especially when we hit St Paul’s Cathedral and filled the entire area outside. It’s what St Paul would have wanted.

Shortly after this we headed to Soho as the skies darkened and the Christmas lights of London became a welcomed backdrop to our wobbly winter wonderland. For this tired, beaten Santa, Soho would be the last stop in what was the best Santacon yet. The route was phenomenal, the atmosphere was outstanding and the Christmas spirit followed us wherever we went.

Somehow I managed to document most of the day through the lens of my iPhone and beer. Be sure to check out the gallery below for a taste of this fantastic event!
